If I had to fear someone it would have to be an African Warlord, they can be one of the most gruesome people. Imagine sleeping in your bed but not a moments notice you wake up to gunshots and while people are holding you at gunpoint and getting taken away. They might be the reason why Africa’s growth is slower than my ability to read. For my topic, I will be talking about Joseph Kony. Being one of the most known warlords.
African Warlords are people who lead armies to conquer pieces of land for themselves. They use ruthless tactics to get what they want such as kidnapping children to be a part of their army or slaves. Demons won’t compare to Joseph Kony (one of the most infamous warlord), he is wanted for 12 counts of crimes and 21 counts of war crimes. Those crimes include murder, abduction, mutilation, and burning of property. Not just that, the children that get kidnapped get mistreated as well, being mutilated, raped, and other acts of violence. Kony motivates his followers by misleading them with religion and other beliefs, anyone who questions it gets killed.
Kony’s main objective was to conquer and rule the land of Uganda. He killed local citizens, captured their children and continued to terrorize Uganda. The more land he took the more fire he took, eventually it caught up to him. His thirst for control and power was the fall of him, Kony got the US’s attention. The Ugandan army along with the assistance of the US tracking him down. Up till now, we don’t know where he is and what he is doing. Some people are terrified that sooner or later Kony and the LRA (Kony’s army) will resurface and cause mayhem and destruction again. There will be an end to him if that’s what going to happen but there will be casualties that can’t be avoided.
There have been many attempts trying to solve this issue. There was a man known as Jason Russell, he made a video on YouTube which got lots of attention. The video was about Kony and how he focused it on Child Soldiers. His solution to the problem was giving attention to Kony making everyone know what his face looked like. A lot of people supported him and a lot of people criticized him. I supported his solution, he didn’t particularly have a solution he just provided some light to the issue. With all that attention he got a lot of people to donate to help protect Ugandan civilians.
If you have read this far I hope I have enlightened you and want to help this cause. The only thing we can do and is just donate money and hope they get captured. With the way the African Government is currently, it can only keep happening. There needs to be a change in their system. With no consequences for these villains what will happen? With all this in mind, all these reasons produce an African Warlord.
